After 4.5 years acting as the agency of record for Promethean in North America, Sensible City withdrew its services as of September, 2009. Today we have signed on with PolyVision, makers of the eno interactive whiteboard. eno offers a lifetime guarantee and dozens of classroom specific features that you can get with no other provider. But here’s the best part for Sensible City’s environmental commitments: this is the only IWB to achieve the coveted Cradle 2 Cradle Certification. As well, eno reaches Gold Standard under the SCS Indoor Advantage Certification. This makes eno the most environmentally sustainable classroom technology product we’ve found on the market in the USA.

For SRS/LRS, we are now proud to represent Qwizdom - the company that gave birth to an entire market segment over 25 years ago and continues to produce the most enriching interactive experience available for classrooms worldwide. We’re positive that between these two values-driven companies, we now represent the most promising technology available for today’s classrooms. Check them out:www.polyvision.com and www.qwizdom.com.

Put away the chalk and erasers. The new board wanted in classrooms is a combination of a chalk board with the functionality of a computer.

It seems to be a big hit, at least at Utica Elementary School.

When Renee Hoyland asked her third-graders who wanted to demonstrate how to use their new smart board, as it’s referred to, every student raised their hand.

“Oh please!”

“Pick me!” the students urged, hoping to get chosen.

Hoyland said this new technology is reaching out to each student in the room.

“Even the reluctant learners, they want to be called up there,” she said, looking at the eager faces of her students. “They feel like they’re playing.”

But they’re learning. The Promethean Activboard — its official name — is a large, white board in front of the classroom that resembles a dry-erase board. However, it’s much different. The board works like a touch screen computer, allowing students to surf the Internet, move items around and more with what looks like a pen, but acts as a mouse.

Offering a Tech Toolkit

Professional development works best when it supports teachers at all levels for an extended time.

Lisa Fratt

Sarasota’s instructional technology director, Mike Horan, not only bought and installed 3,000 interactive whiteboards in one year, he also trained each teacher extensively to make sure they take full advantage of the tools.

“We would not have signed the purchase order without a sound plan for [it],” states Mike Horan, Sarasota (Fla.) County Schools instructional-technology director. That “it” he’s talking about is a key piece of many other school projects. No matter where you are located, no matter what technology is being bought, the biggest part of all these projects just might be the least discussed.
